Cooked figs from the hills of Matera
Produced exclusively from autochthonous varieties grown in the Colline di Matera (Basilicata).
No preservatives, thickeners, colourings or sugar added.
A viscous and very thick liquid of dark brown to black colour.

It is obtained by boiling ripe figs and boiling the resulting liquid over low heat. This process causes the evaporation of the vegetable liquids and the concentration of the natural sugar.Once the ripened product was used for stomach complaints and inflammation of the oral cavity. The cooked figs and the delicious biscuits made with them are unknown outside the rural area of the Matera hills, and are found exclusively there.

To save this wonderful product from disappearing is to practically fight against an aspect of environmental destruction caused by the neglect and lack of care of the fig tree.
The taste is sweet and aromatic, with notes of dried figs, sultanas and dates. Smell of various spices such as cinnamon, cloves, wild fennel seeds and bitter cocoa. In the past, cooked figs were used as a sugar substitute, in the preparation of focaccia and biscuits, and as an accompaniment to pepperoni cruschi

An excerpt about the book
"One need not be surprised, then, if an encounter with this enchanting, contrasting and diverse region, beyond the beaten track of mass tourism, can suddenly trigger existential questions and feelings of sublimity in one. After all, isn't there a bit of Lucania - the more original name of this ancient region - in each of us? "Largely intact and mystical landscapes, soil soaked in cultures and human history at the crossroads of two seas and the north-south connection in the countryside, folklore and traditions that hint at distant times, the richness of a simple agro-pastoral cuisine that testifies to a poignant authenticity of the once bitterly poor living worlds and today inspires modern "chefs", overwhelming hospitality and the warmth of the people - nothing leaves you untouched here if you travel with open hearts and eyes".

ABOUT  MATERA

AN OPEN CHALLENGE BETWEEN MAN AND NATURE

Matera is one of the oldest cities in the world. Since 17 October 2014, it has been the European Capital of Culture for 2019. Since 1993, the Sassi and the Park of the Rock Churches have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

During the day, sunlight envelops its stone houses, giving them a colour very similar to the buildings of Palestine. At night, supported by small flames, it looks like a huge manger set up under a starry sky, watched over by the moon.

Matera's beauty and its extraordinary charm have made it so famous in Italy and abroad that it has been used by famous directors such as Mel Gibsonwith "The Passion" and Pier Paolo Pasolini with "The Gospel According to Matthew" and more recently by Cyrus Nowrasteh with "Christ the Lord from Egypt" and Timur

Dekmambetov with the remake of "Ben-Hur" was chosen as a filming location.
But the city of the Sassi has also attracted great masters of sculpture, as documented in the Museum of Contemporary Sculpture, and also of photography, such as Henry Cartier-Bresson, Mario Cresci and Franco Pinna.

In Matera, nature and man are the absolute protagonists of history, landscape and traditions, joined by interesting testimonies of the sacred, such as the more than 150 rock churches, with their splendid Byzantine frescoes, that make up the regional park of the same name, and, not far from the city, the crypt of the
The Crypt of Original Sin, also known as the "Sistine Chapel" of rock painting, is not far from the city.

PROTECTION AGAINST VIRUS INFECTIONS   THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT OLIVE OIL

STRENGTHEN THE IMMUNE SYSTEM NATURALLY
IMMUNE BUILDING PROPERTIES

"Oily fish and virgin or extra-virgin olive oil also contribute to improved immune defence and reduced inflammatory processes," explains Prof. Dr. Portius.
As the paper states, virgin olive oil contains the bioactive components such as hydroxytyrosol, oleocanthal and oleic acid, which have been shown to have immune-building properties.
Blood samples from study participants who were to eat strictly according to the Mediterranean diet (in which a lot of olive oil is used) showed improved activation of certain immune cells (T-cells), as well as an increase in the number of these defence cells by 53 percent.
